What obstacles does Homer Smith have to face in building Mother Marta's Chapel?

Homer Smith has many obstacles that he has to surpass in order to build a chapel for the nun's that he has ran into.   It appears to Homer that the nuns believe he was sent to them from God, which annoys him.   This appears right in the beginning of the book when Mother Martha says "Gott ist gut” “He hass sent to me a big, stronk man" (p.12).   This almost fortunately is not so bad as to the bickering between the two throughout the entire book.   Even the ending in continued with a little bit of arguing and Homers mysterious leaving.

Another obstacle with the chapel is money.   Even though this book proves that money isn’t everything it also shows dedication and determination can get the attention of others and inspire them to help you out.   This is proven when building the church is put on a stand still and Homer and the ladies are out of bricks.   The towns’ people realize how serious Homer is about building this place and realize that their help is needed in order to finish what Homer has begun. With building the chapel brings the means of labor.

Throughout the beginning of the book Homer says that one man is going to take a long time to make a chapel to the nuns and then, throughout the middle of the book, Homer denies help from the workers who want to help build.   Once he gets to an important section where he is making a window so that light will hit that alter a particular way he runs into a little bit of a jam.   He is seems to have trouble with the positioning of the window and at this point a man named Juan Archuleta joined him in his work area.   He puts the window into place and smashes a brick just they way he needs to.   This helpful act shows Homer that with the help of the other workers who are experience with the adobe brick that they can get the job done much faster then he would be able to without them.
